Conditions for the participation of your child

It is understood that…

The school is responsible for the project and its volunteers. To obtain further information or share your comments on the Walking School Bus, please contact the person in charge of the Walking School Bus committee at the school.

Your child can join the Walking School Bus anywhere on the route. Please note that as a parent or legal guardian, you are responsible for making sure your child safely joins the Walking School Bus. We strongly urge that you wait with your child until the Walking School Bus arrives, or that you accompany him until you reach the walking school bus.

The Walking School Bus is based on the same principle as a regular school bus and cannot wait for latecomers as it must get to school on time before classes start.

Volunteers who walk with the children are parents and/or members of the community. They receive road safety training, are obligated to wear the yellow security vest provided by the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS), and are subjected to a criminal background check.

By accepting these conditions of participation, you acknowledge that the Walking School Bus does not completely eliminate normal (or inherent) risks and you waive any and all claims against the school and School Board, employees and officials, and the Canadian Cancer Society, as a result of any injury, illness, death or other damage that may result directly or indirectly from your child’s participation in this project.

You give the school and the Canadian Cancer Society permission to photograph and film your child during his/her participation in the Walking School Bus, and give your full consent to use any photo or video of him/her in the school’s and the CCS’s communications.

The school and the Canadian Cancer Society are committed to ensuring the confidentiality and security of personal information related to volunteers and participating children. The information provided is protected and will not be shared with any other organization.

From time to time, the Canadian Cancer Society may contact people who have provided personal information on its web site and who have agreed to be contacted for their input. These surveys are designed to enhance our services. While aggregate data collected as part of these surveys may be made public, no personal data will be disclosed to anyone.

The Canadian Cancer Society may later contact people who registered online for Trottibus to provide information on various issues. The CCS may get in touch by mail, phone or e-mail. If you don’t want Trottibus and the Canadian Cancer Society to contact you or publish Trottibus photos or film of your child, we will respect your decision. Please let us know by contacting us at:
